PGY 1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (3 positions)

About the Program

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, in affiliation with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, offers a 12-month PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency.  This program will prepare the resident with skills to provide administrative services and patient-oriented pharmaceutical care in an ambulatory care environment.  The skills gained by the resident will include patient disease state management training, retail/clinical pharmacy management, formulary development and maintenance, outcomes research, and drug information.  The resident will design and conduct a research project during the year to gain experience in study design/methodology, data collection, and statistical analysis, along with written and oral presentation of results.  The resident will have the opportunity to set goals for the residency and develop a training plan for achieving these goals.

PGY 1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Texas HealthSpring (1 position)

About the Program

The 12-month residency focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills pharmacists need in order to assume leadership roles within a managed care organization. They will gain a clinical and administrative perspective of the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professional within a health plan. Residency activities include: development and administration of a research project; formulary development; participation in medication therapy management; involvement in the legislative and regulatory aspects of managed care pharmacy; development of drug policies and drug monographs; and exposure to quality guidelines and initiatives to improve health outcomes and pharmacy benefit management. Additionally, the resident will have the opportunity to develop expertise in the following areas: prior authorizations, medication counseling, claims adjudication, drug utilization reviews and overall pharmacy operations.

Concurrent MS and Residency in Pharmacy Administration (5 positions)

About the Program

Designed to prepare pharmacists with the knowledge and skills to assume positions of leadership in healthcare, the 24-month program offers a unique learning, teaching and collaboration opportunities to obtain a M.S. in Pharmacy Administration with a focus on Pharmacy Leadership from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and concurrently complete residency training (PGY1/PGY2) from the following Texas Medical Center Institutions: the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Harris County Hospital District, Memorial Hermann Health Care System, The Methodist Hospital and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.
