Student Michelle
Hamilton, Pharm.D.
('05), outgoing president of
the Houston Area Pharmacy Association
(HAPA), recently announced that
UH alumna Denise Martinez,
Pharm.D. ('06), and pharmacy
student Andrew "Andy"
Laegeler have received
the 2007 Young Pharmacist of
the Year and Student of the
Year awards, respectively. In
addition, UH alumnus Shaji
Varghese, R.Ph. (BS
'94), was elected Treasurer
and alumni Tammy Folsom,
R.Ph. (BS '93), and Bruce
Biundo, R.Ph. (BS '61),
and UH faculty member Heidi
Bragg, R.Ph., were
named as Directors of HAPA.
UH pharmacy students Stephanie
Weightman and Rachel
Young were appointed
as student representatives on
the HAPA board.

this summer to a three-year
term as president of the TSHP
Research & Education Foundation.
Cuellar also recently was appointed
to the Texas State Board of
Pharmacy's Task Force on Internship.

officer at Memorial Hermann

Earns Clinical Lipid Specialist
Credential

Associate Professor Kim
K. Birtcher, Pharm.D.,
M.S., BCPS, CDE, has been awarded
"diplomate" status
by the Accreditation Council
for Clinical Lipidology (ACCL).
Serving as Clinical Pharmacist
at the Kelsey-Seybold Secondary
Prevention Lipid Clinic, Birtcher
is one of the first pharmacists
in the nation to achieve the
"Clinical Lipid Specialist"
credentials. The ACCL is a nonprofit
certifying organization dedicated
to reducing the morbidity and
mortality from dyslipidemia
and related diseases by assessing
qualifications and certifying
knowledge in clinical lipidology.

Program
Three
UHCOP alumni received certificates
of completion from the Texas
Pharmacy Association's inaugural
New Pharmacist Leadership
Conference at the 2007 TPA
Annual Meeting. Renee
Prescott, Pharm.D.
('02), Michelle Hamilton,
Pharm.D. ('05), and Stephanie
Erwin, Pharm.D. ('02),
were among only 20 pharmacists
statewide accepted into the
program, which included two
days of seminars covering
a variety of personal and
professional development topics
and the completion of post-conference
projects. In addition to learning
new skills and growth strategies,
participants in the program
earn 18 hours of continuing
education credit.

Elected to SNPhA Regional Post

Pharm.D. student Shahana
Quadri was appointed
Region 4 Facilitator of the
Student National Pharmaceutical
Association (SNPhA) at the organization's
annual conference in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Quadri served as the
2006-07 Vice President of the
UH chapter of SNPhA.

TPA Annual Meeting in July.
Edwards received a 2007 TPF
Scholarship and Hansen received
the '07 TPF Larry "Neal" McClaugherty
