Among AACP's Teachers of the Year
UHCOP
faculty members Julianna
Szilagyi, Ph.D., and Jessica
L. White, Pharm.D., BCPS,
recently were named among the
American Association of Colleges
of Pharmacy's 2007 Teachers
of the Year. Representing both
departments of the college,
Szilagyi and White were honored
as outstanding teachers by members
of Rho Chi's UH chapter at the
May 2007 Graduation Banquet.
Tam Receives
Funding for Project to Predict
Microbial Response to Antimicrobial
Agents UHCOP
Assistant Professor Vincent
H. Tam, Pharm.D., BCPS,
has received grant funding for
his research project aimed at
predicting microbial response
to antimicrobial agents using
computer simulation and mathematical
modeling. Tam is the primary
investigator on a $219,000 grant
from AstraZeneca as well as
co-investigator in collaboration
with UH Chemical Engineering
faculty member Michael Nikolaou,
Ph.D., on a nearly $400,000
grant from the National Science
Foundation.
Medicinal
Chemistry Researcher Joins UHCOP
Faculty UHCOP
welcomes its latest addition
to the Department of Pharmacology
& Pharmaceutical Sciences:
Joydip Das, Ph.D. Joining
the college as an assistant
professor in the medicinal chemistry
group, Das' primary research
interest is in protein-kinase
C activators and inhibitors.
His projects are currently being
funded by a grant from the National
Institutes of Health through
2008.

Pharm.D. Students Earn PPS Academic
Awards
Three
Pharm.D. students were presented
the Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical
Sciences Outstanding Academic
Achievement Awards Students
at the annual Rho Chi Robert
L. Boblitt Lecture. The awards
are given to Pharm.D. students
who earn the highest grades
in their during their first-
and second-year curriculum.
Yading Zhou received
the award among P1 students
and Ann Marie Prazak and
Ran Xu tied among P2
students.
College and
Alumni Association Host Homecoming
Tailgate Nov. 17 UHCOP
alumni, students and friends
are invited to attend the Pharmacy
Homecoming Tailgate from 12:30
p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 17, in the parking lot
of Robertson Stadium. In addition,
UH and the Houston Alumni Organization
will host a variety of events
and activities for alumni and
students - including a golf
tournament, block party and
jazz brunch - during Homecoming
