address to the more than 100
graduates of the UH College
of Pharmacy in May. "Not only

of pharmacy, but I want you
to be the future of this state.

since 1974, Hopson (BS '65)
was the College's 2004 Distinguished
Alumnus and the Texas Pharmacy
Association's 2006 Pharmacist
of the Year.

Honors Pharmacy Student Preceptors
Several
preceptors and alumni recently
were recognized for excellence
in helping the college provide
an unparalleled education to
its students. Among the Class
of 2007 Graduation Banquet award
winners were Memorial Hermann
Hospital's Brad D. Domonoske,
R.Ph. - Clinical Preceptor
of the Year; Greenpark Pharmacy's
Maria E. Alvarez,
Pharm.D. ('01) - Roche Preceptor
of the Year; and San Jacinto
Methodist Hospital in Baytown -
UH Health Systems Site of the
Year. Randalls Regional Pharmacy
Manager and UHCOP alumna Julie
Spier, R.Ph. (BS '86)
received the Dean's Special
Recognition Award for her numerous
volunteer activities for the
college, including 20 years
of service on the annual golf
tournament.
Scholz
Marks Daughter's Graduation
with Scholarship
Robert
Scholz, R.Ph. (BS '77,
MS '88), senior vice president
of District Services at the
Harris County Hospital District,
recently pledged $10,000 to
establish the Scholz Family
Endowed Scholarship in honor
of daughters Margaret
and Katherine "Katie" Scholz.
A May 2007 graduate of the College,
Katie Scholz, Pharm.D., is preparing
to enter a two-year clinical
residency/M.S. program in Ohio.
In addition to being an alumnus
of the College, Robert Scholz
serves on the Dean's Advisory
Council and as 2006-07 president
of the UH Pharmacy Alumni Association.

Honors David & Kay Sparks
The
American College of Apothecaries
recently presented the 2007
J. Leon Lascoff Memorial Award
to David and Kay Sparks
of Houston-based Professional
Compounding Centers of America
(PCCA) for their outstanding
contributions to professional
pharmacy. The organization honored
the couple for their longtime
role in and support of pharmacy
education and the rights of
compounding pharmacists. Longtime
supporters of the College of
Pharmacy and its students, David
and Kay Sparks are members of
the Mading Society. David Sparks
also serves on UHCOP's adjunct
faculty and the Dean's Advisory
Council.
