Second
UH Student in National Scholars
Program
Elaine
DePrang has become
the second student from the
UH College of Pharmacy to be
selected for a national scholars
program aimed at encouraging
multidisciplinary public health
initiatives. The Paul A. Ambrose
Scholars Program, named in memory
of a physician and public health
advocate who perished in the
Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks,
sponsored a two-day symposium
in Washington, D.C., in late
June for students in a variety
of medical and health professions
to learn tools and strategies
for mounting collaborative community
health projects. May 2007 UHCOP
graduate Briget Martinez,
Pharm.D., developed a diabetes
management program for the Hispanic
community in southwest Houston
after participating in the program
last year.

Student Appointed to ASHP Committee
UH pharmacy student Andrew
"Andy" Laegeler
has been appointed to the ASHP
Student Forum Executive Committee.
The five-member committee is
responsible for directing the
activities and programs of the
Forum and advising ASHP staff
members on ways to better meet
the needs of ASHP’s 10,000-plus
student members.

Organization. Annual dues are
only $45, and you automatically
become a member of the Pharmacy

Association will hold elections
for several 2007-08 board positions,
including Directors and Secretary,
at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31,
