New
BSPS Degree Program Wins State
Board Approval
On
April 24, the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board gave full
approval to UH College of Pharmacy's
new Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical
Sciences degree program. The
new program is the first of
its kind in Texas, and establishes
the College of Pharmacy as the
first college at UH to offer
academic programs at the undergraduate,
graduate and professional degree
levels. The board's move clears
the way for the College to admit
up to 50 students in the inaugural
class beginning in the Fall
2008 semester. The new undergraduate
degree will prepare students
for various careers in the pharmaceutical
industry, including laboratory/research
technician, medical device or
drug sales, regulatory affairs,
manufacturing/process improvement,
and drug information. The degree
also provides a fundamental
education in the sciences for
students seeking professional
or advanced degrees in the health
sciences, law and other disciplines.
BSPS graduates will not be eligible
for licensure as a pharmacist.

BSPS program, visit www.uh.edu/pharmacy/bsps.
