Future Students / Pharmacy Administration Graduate Programs



The Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration offers graduate programs in Pharmacy Administration leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These graduate programs prepare students with the theoretical basis, technical knowledge, and critical thinking skills in pharmacy administration, public health, and health service research. The Master of Science (MS) in Pharmacy Administration is a graduate program that provides a comprehensive yet flexible curriculum to advance research and development in the field of pharmacy administration.  Research areas in pharmacy administration encompasses issues dealing with the various topics involved in Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research and Management, Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacy Leadership, Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Management, Pharmaceutical Marketing, and Consumer Health Behavior.

Any student who has completed a Bachelor’s or higher degree with an aptitude towards working in the pharmaceutical or the health industry can apply.

The concurrent MS and Residency program is designed to prepare pharmacists who have completed the Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) with the knowledge and skills necessary to assume positions of management and leadership in healthcare.  The program offers a unique opportunity for learning, teaching, and collaborating within the organizations of the Texas Medical Center.  Students will obtain a MS in Pharmacy Administration with a focus on Pharmacy Leadership from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and concurrently complete residency training (PGY1/PGY2) from the following Texas Medical Center Institutions: the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Harris County Hospital District, Memorial Hermann Health Care System, The Methodist Hospital and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.

The combined Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)/ Master of Science (MS) in Pharmacy Administration program is designed for highly motivated and qualified students who are currently in the PharmD program at the University of Houston and are seeking a career in Pharmaceutical Administration and Management.  Students will be trained on a year-round basis to complete the requirements of both the PharmD and the MS degree programs. The combined program is intended for all students (P1-P4) currently enrolled in the PharmD program at the University of Houston.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmacy Administration is designed to develop outstanding graduates to assume leadership positions in the field of pharmacy administration for careers in academia, government, and industry-related health care organizations.  Students who have completed a MS degree in Pharmacy Administration or a related field can apply.
